Diamand Abou Abboud is a Lebanese actress, writer, director, and drama professor, whose roles on both the big and small screens varied between Egyptian, Lebanese, and international projects, and received great international attention in various prestigious festivals.

Abou Abboud came into international prominence after starring in Ziad Doueiri’s THE INSULT (2017) — Lebanon’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards — followed by Philippe Van Leeuw’s INSYRIATED (2017) alongside Hiam Abbass, which earned her the Best Actress Award at the Cairo International Film Festival.

Her first short film POINT VIRGULE — which she wrote and directed — earned her the Special Jury Award at the European Film Festival in Beirut, and her magnum opus VOID (2013) — which she starred in and co-wrote alongside Georges Khabbaz — earned her several local and international awards, including the Best Script Award at the Malmö Arab Film Festival, the Best Actress Award at the Al Dakhla Festival in Morocco, the Best Actress Award at the Lebanese Movie Awards, as well as a Murex d’Or for Best Actress. The film was also one of the films in consideration to be Lebanon’s official submission for the 88th Academy Awards.

Among Abou Abboud’s other prominent films are Samir Habchi’s BEIRUT OPEN CITY (2008), Bahij Hojeij’s HERE COMES THE RAIN (2010), Mahmoud Hojeij’s STABLE UNSTABLE (2013), Wissam Smayra’s PERFECT STRANGERS (2022) — Netflix’s first-ever original Arabic film — Mira Shaib’s ARZÉ (2022), and Hisham Bizri’s ELEKTRA (2023).

As for her works on the small screen, Diamond has had many successful dramas, such as Mahmoud Kamel’s AL SEHAM AL MARIQA (2018) — which was co-written by Sherine, Khaled, and Mohamed Diab — Dominik Moll’s mini-series EDEN (2019), Lebanese dramas BEIRUT 6:07 (2020), FIXER (2020), and AL NAHAT (2020), as well as Samer El Barqawi’s ANA (2021) alongside Taim Hassan and Razane Jammal, and Rodney Haddad’s AMNESIA (2021).

Diamand also starred in Kamla Abou Zekry’s Ramadan 2022 Shahid series BITLOU' AL ROUH alongside Menna Shalaby, Ahmed El Sa'dany, and Elham Shahin.

As for her latest role, Diamand recently made her debut in Egyptian cinema alongside Ahmed Hatem in HASSAN EL MASRI, which is another collaboration for her with director Samir Habchi.

Her acting career aside, Abou Abboud has also participated as a jury member in several local and international film festivals, including the Festival International du Film Francophone, the Cairo International Film Festival, the Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage, the Malmö Arab Film Festival, and others.
