The Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF) has announced the selection of TV personality Raya Abirached as a jury member at the Feature Film Competition, which will be held during the festival's 11th edition (April 6-11) this year.
The jury panel of the Feature Film Competition shall include Raya Abirached, screenwriter Tamer Habib, Saudi actress and director Fatima AlBanawi, Palestinian director Najwa Najjar, and Moroccan film researcher Leila Charadi. The competition boasts a selection of the most remarkable Arab films that were produced during last year.
Standing as a unique platform for the Nordic and Arab film industries, MAFF aims to screen films from different Arab countries for the foreign communities residing in Sweden that include almost 175 nationalities. The festival attracts thousands of filmmakers annually, including directors, actors, producers, and film enthusiasts from around the world.
With more than 15 years of experience as a TV host, producer, writer and researcher, Raya is a celebrated TV personality who has established a remarkable name for herself hosting several successful TV shows and covers the world’s most prestigious film events and festivals.
She is also the brand ambassador of many international brands, including IWC watches, Banana Republic, and Sony Mobile. Abirached lent her voice to the Arabic versions of some of the most famous animation films The Angry Birds Movie, Smurfs: The Lost Village, Angry Birds 2 and Spies in Disguise. In 2019, Abirached won the Arab Women of the Year Award for Achievement in Television at the 2019’s Arab Women of the Year Awards in London and she also won the award of Nickelodeon Arabia Favorite TV Personality of the Year in 2019.
