Tarek Al Arian is a director, producer, and screenwriter born in Kuwait, living and working in Egypt and widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in contemporary Arab cinema. He is the son of late producer Riad Al Arian, whose legacy played a formative role in shaping his early exposure to filmmaking and production. Tarek Al Arian completed his high school education in Egypt before traveling to the United States to study cinema at Southern Illinois University, later returning to Egypt to begin his professional career.
Tarek Al Arian began his directing career with the feature film THE EMPEROR (AL IMBRATOR, 1990), followed by AL BASHA (1992), both starring the legendary Ahmed Zaki, establishing him as a director capable of handling large-scale, star-driven productions.
Following these films, he directed music videos, commercial advertisements, and television programs, including the popular show WITH SOULA.
Alongside his creative work, Tarek Al Arian built a strong foundation in production management and administration. In 1991, he founded Framework for Film Production, through which he oversaw numerous film, television, and music projects. He later established Star Gate, a music production company responsible for producing a wide range of music videos and songs for leading Arab artists, and founded FAME, a music label that played a significant role in shaping the regional music industry.
He achieved mainstream success with ELSALLEM WEL TE‘BAN (2001) and TITO (2004), which became landmark action films in early-2000s Arab cinema. He later directed THE WALLS OF THE MOON (2015), THE CELL (EL-KHALEYA, 2017), and the SONS OF RIZK (WELAD RIZK) franchise, which includes SONS OF RIZK (2015), SONS OF RIZK 2: RETURN OF THE LIONS OF THE LAND (2019), and SONS OF RIZK 3: THE VERDICT (2024). All three installments garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success, with the third becoming Egypt’s highest-grossing film, surpassing revenues of EGP 260 million.
Television work includes directing a single episode of the hit series NEMRA ETNEIN (2020). More recent projects include ELSALLEM WEL TE‘BAN 2: LE‘EB EYAL (2025).
Throughout his career, Tarek Al Arian has maintained a hands-on role as a writer and producer, ensuring a cohesive creative vision across his projects. He contributed story and screenplay work to THE EMPEROR, AL BASHA, ELSALLEM WEL TE‘BAN, TITO, NEMRA ETNEIN, and ELSALLEM WEL TE‘BAN 2: LE‘EB EYAL, while producing influential titles including BANK EL HAZ, NOGOUM AL SAHEL, THE CELL (EL-KHALEYA), and the SONS OF RIZK franchise.
