About Mariam Abou Ouf:
Mariam Abou Ouf is an Egyptian director and writer who earned her Bachelor's in Political Science and Philosophy from the American University in Cairo. She then moved to the UK to study film at the London Film Academy, graduating in 2004. Wasting no time, Abou Ouf promptly began her directorial debut that same year, with the award-winning documentary TAXI.
In 2009, Abou Ouf made her television debut with the series HALA WEL MESTAKHABBY, featuring Layla Olwy. In 2011, she directed her first feature film, BEBO AND BASHEER, which starred Menna Shalaby alongside Asser Yassin. That same year, she directed the widely successful short #TAHRIR 2-2, a segment from a collection of films titled 18 DAYS. It world premiered at the 64th Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Prize at the Brussels International Independent Film Festival.
Abou Ouf also wrote the hit series EMBRATOREYET MEEN, starring Hend Sabry, and has worked on the first two seasons of the widely successful LEIH LAA. She also directed the short series WESH WA DAHR, which aired on Shahid. She is one of the creators of the much-loved puppet program ABLA FAHITA.
Her recent work includes directing the Ramadan 2023 drama TAGHYEER GAW, starring Menna Shalaby, Sherine, Eyad Nasser, and Mervat Amin. Filmed in Lebanon, the TV series is notable for fusing aspects of both drama and comedy.
In addition to her impressive filmographic repertoire, Mariam Abou Ouf was a member of the Cairo International Film Festival from 1999 to 2010
She also ventured into the advertising world, collaborating with major brands in the MENA region and directing TV commercials.
She directed the hit music video 3 DAQAT, which featured Abu alongside the renowned starlet Yousra, heralding the first edition of El Gouna Film Festival.
