Biography
Mariam Abou Ouf is an Egyptian director and writer who earned her Bachelor's in Political Science and Philosophy from the American University in Cairo. She then moved to the UK to study film at the London Film Academy, graduating in 2004. Wasting no time, Aou Auf promptly began her directorial debut that same year, with the award-winning documentary TAXI.
In 2009, Abou Ouf made her television debut with the series HALA WEL MESTAKHABBY, starring Layla Olwy. Two years later, in 2011, she directed her first feature film, BEBO AND BASHEER, which featured Menna Shalaby. Additionally, she directed the short film TAHRIR 2-2, which was part of a larger anthology of short films on the 2011 Egyptian Revolution titled ‘18 DAYS’ that had its world premiere at the 64th Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Grand Prize at the Brussels International Independent Film Festival.
Abou Ouf also directed the acclaimed hit TV series EMBRATOREYET MEEN, starring Hend Sabry, and worked on the first two seasons of LEIH LAA!?, both of which were immediate hits. She also directed the short series WESH WA DAHR, airing on Shahid with great success. In 2023, she directed the Ramadan TV series TAGHYEER JAW, which starred Menna Shalaby and Mervat Amin.
She is also a co-creator of the audience-loved program ABLA FAHITA.
In addition to her impressive achievements in film and television, Mariam Abu Ouf was part of the Cairo International Film Festival’s team from 1998 to 2010.
She also ventured into the advertising world, collaborating with major brands in the MENA region, directing TV commercials and music videos, including the one for Abu’s viral hit song 3 DAQAT, thus leaving her mark in the entertainment industry as a prolific director, mastering various mediums.
