Biography
Dora Bouchoucha is a Tunisian producer who began her career in the industry in 1994. She has produced and co-produced several award-winning short films, documentaries, and feature films, including Raja Amari's SATIN ROUGE and CORPS ÉTRANGER, Moufida Tlatli's LA SAISON DES HOMMES, and Mohamed Ben Attia's HEDI, which won Best First Feature and Best Actor at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Her credits also include Ayten Amin's SOUAD, which was Egypt's official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 2021 Oscars; Dhafer L'Abidine's directorial debut GHODWA; DEAR SON, Tunisia's official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 2020 Oscars; and BEHIND THE MOUNTAINS, which held its world premiere at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival, receiving a rousing standing ovation.
As a teenager, Dorra volunteered at the Carthage Film Festival — the oldest film festival in Africa and the Arab world — before presiding over three of its editions (2008, 2010, and 2014). To further the festival’s development, she established the projects' workshop in 1992 and then the Takmil Workshop in 2014.
Additionally, she has been a permanent member of the Rotterdam International Film Festival's CineMart for over ten years now. She also served on the jury for the Luigi De Laurentiis Venice Award for Debut Films.
Also, from 2007 to 2011, she served as a consultant on Arab and African films for the Venice Film Festival's selection board.
In 2023, her presence was felt at the illustrious Cannes event, where she took on the role of a patron for La Fabrique du Cinéme, where she provided valuable guidance and support to 10 emerging directors, assisting them in shaping their first or sophomore film projects. Additionally, she showcased her expertise by delivering a remarkable masterclass.
Not stopping at Cannes, she extended her influence to the Venice festival, where she actively participated in a panel discussion titled ‘The Golden Time for Arab Talents Regionally and Internationally,’ an event expertly hosted by the esteemed Arab Cinema Center — and served as a jury member in its 80th edition.
Notably, she also served as a distinguished jury member at the 2023 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
