Islam Mubarak Wins Two Consecutive Best Actress Awards For The Tale Of Daye’s Family

Sudanese actress Islam Mubarak has achieved a new milestone in her career, winning two consecutive Best Actress awards for her role in Karim El Shennawy’s latest film: THE TALE OF DAYE’S FAMILY — one at the Port Said Film Festival and the other at the Baghdad International Film Festival.

Previously, in April, the actress also won a Special Jury Prize at the Hollywood Arab Film Festival in California for her role in the film. These wins cement her status as a remarkable talent with an ability to sincerely portray complex roles.

In THE TALE OF DAYE’S FAMILY, Islam Mubarak portrays Zainab, a mother confronting society's cruelty toward her child with albinism. Her performance relies more on expressive glances and body language than on dialogue, which gives the character a striking and graceful maternal presence.

Daye, a 14-year-old Nubian albino with a golden voice, faces adversity due to his unique appearance. Abandoned by his father and bullied by peers, he dreams of following his idol, Mohamed Mounir. When he gets a chance to audition for The Voice, Daye and his family embark on a perilous journey from Aswan to Cairo.

The consecutive wins add to the wave of acclaim the film has achieved since its premiere at the fourth Red Sea International Film Festival last December.

Mubarak’s performance has been lauded as one of the strongest assets of the film.

Islam Mubarak is a Khartoum-born actress who made her name with a breakout lead performance in the Venice prize-winning 2019 film YOU WILL DIE AT TWENTY, directed by Amjad Abu Alala.
