Hesham Nazih is a renowned Egyptian composer who has introduced more than 40 works that vary between TV series and cinematic blockbusters, working with key directors within the Egyptian film industry. Among these directors are Tarek Alarian, Marwan Hamed, Sherif Arafa, Mohamed Yassin, Hadi El Bagouri, Khaled Marei, Radwan El-Kashef, Sandra Nashaat, Hani Khalifa, and Kamla Abu Zekri. Hesham is known for his exceptional talent in employing instruments and themes with different cultural backgrounds in modern pieces.
In addition to possessing an extensive repertoire that has achieved tremendous success across the digital platforms, Hesham has also received a plethora of awards for many of his works, most notably receiving Faten Hamama Excellence Award from the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) in 2018, marking the first composer to receive this award.
Hesham began his artistic career composing the score of Hysteria (1998), two years later, he composed the music for both Alabwab almughliqa (The Closed Doors) and Omar 2000, which dominated the awards season at the time. Nazih won his first-ever Best Music award from Alexandria International Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries for his music in the film Omar 2000.
Hesham Nazih’s breakthrough was through El Sellem Wel Te'ban (2001). His most remarkable works include Al Saher (The Magician) (2001), Sahar El Laiali (Sleepless Nights) (2003), Tito (2004), Afrah AlQoba (Celebrations of Al-Qobba) (2016), Welad Rizk film series (Sons of Rizk) (2015/2019) and The Treasure film series (2017/2019).
Nazih is best known for his distinguished style that interweaves a mix of melodies from different cultures. This is evident through his works that include Ibrahim L'Abyad (2009), The Originals (2017), The Blue Elephant, Blue Elephant: Dark Whispers, which dominated the box office becoming the highest-grossing film in the history of Egyptian cinema, Sharbat Louz (2012), Elsabaa Wasaya (The Seven Commandments) (2014), and Khaled Marei’s Al Ahd: Al Kalam Al Mubah (The Covenant) (2015). At the beginning of 2020, Hesham introduced Shahid.net’s first original Egyptian series Fi Kol Osbu’ Yowm Goma’a, which marks his first work to be screened on a digital platform. In 2021, Hesham worked on composing the music and songs accompanying the Pharaohs' Golden Parade, and the score of Al Aref: Awdet Younis (The Knower) that is currently is dominating the box office, striking a balance between being among the most popular films and participating in international festivals. In the same year he was also honored by the Arab Music Festival in the opening of its 30th edition in recognition of his musical career for over 20 years and was featured in an in-conversation alongside the Two- time Academy Award Winner A.R Rahman within the events of Cairo Industry Days of Cairo International Film Festival.
His latest works include Marvel’s new series Moon Knight (2022), a new TV series that premiered on Disney+ and featured music by Hesham Nazih, in a superhero story affiliated with ancient Egyptian deities and mythology.
Nazih is currently working on the upcoming film project; Kira & El Gin by director Marwan Hamed and writer Ahmed Mourad.
