Ahmed Malek is a young and aspiring actor whose penchant for acting cemented his name as an up-and-coming Egyptian talent. His exceptional acting skills were first recognized when he was picked for the role of Hassan Al-Banna in the TV hit El-Gama'a (2010). Malek moved to a new stage where he became a rising young star in high demand. He worked with Egyptian star Ghada Abdelrazek and director Mohamed Samy in two TV series; Ma'a Sabk El Esrar (Premeditated) (2012) TV series, for which he received the Dear Guest Award for Best Young Actor, and Hekayet Hayah (2013). Among his notable works in film and TV: Sheikh Jackson that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and took part in the BFI London Film Festival, and El Gouna Film Festival, Clash that opened the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, Hepta: The Last Lecture, the highest-grossing romantic film in the history of Egyptian cinema, La Tottfea Al Shams TV series that was among the most-watched TV series in Ramadan 2017 and Ext. Night (2018) that landed its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
In 2018, Malek was selected among four international Rising Stars at the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2019, he starred alongside David Wenham in the Australian film The Furnace, marking the latter’s debut feature. The film world premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and landed Arab world premiere at El Gouna Film Festival in 2020. In the same year, he was part of the Arab Stars of Tomorrow panel that was held within the 42nd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival.
In December, 2020, Ahmed Malek was awarded the Breakthrough Actor of the Year in 2020 Award by GQ Middle East in celebration of his journey and remarkable achievements throughout the year. He also graced the magazine´s cover featuring the world's top fashion houses, including Hermès and Dior.
This marks the second collaboration between Malek and GQ Middle East as the magazine featured an interview with the young star earlier this year under the title: “Ahmed Malek is About to Go”.
Recently, he took part in the Ramadan TV drama Nasl Al Aghrab by director Mohamed Samy, where he stars along with Ahmed Sakka, Amir Karara.
Currently, Malek is working on a number of upcoming projects, including: the anticipated new film Kira & El Gin by the dynamic duo Marwan Hamed and Ahmed Mourad, Amar 14 film by director Hadi El Bagoury, and the new TV drama Tahqeeq (Investigation). He is also currently shooting Netflix’s upcoming film The Swimmers, which traces the real-life story of Yusra and Sara Mardini, the Syrian refugee sisters who made it to the Olympics. The new film is written and directed by Sally El Husseiny and Kinda will be starring opposite Kinda Alloush.
